I wanted to put my very first oil painting on this page, but it is, sadly, long gone. At the time, this is also the largest canvas I'd ever painted on and thought it was SUCH a large area to cover. Twenty-four by twenty-four inches is not really that large after all!
This was painted from a photgraph I'd taken of a neighbor's Rose of Sharon (althea) bush. I'd been fascinated by the light, shadow, and shapes that resulted from sheer accident (I'm not known for my photography!), and wasn't at all unhappy with the painting. It was in several galleries, and a few special shows, but no one ever loved it enough to buy it, so it is now owned by a very dear friend and collector of my work.
